PAVRU

Philippines-AFRIMS Virology Research Unit (PAVRU), located in Cebu City, the Philippines, was established in late 2006 and is headed by the Country Team Leader, Dr. Maria Theresa Alera. PAVRU has been involved in local, regional and national public health and medical research initiatives in the Philippines. These include surveillance for emerging infectious diseases such as dengue and influenza, and electronic disease surveillance and reporting. Collaborators include the Philippine Department of Health, Cebu City Health Department, and the Armed Forces of the Philippines Medical Center. PAVRU has been instrumental in supporting the world’s first Phase 3 dengue vaccine trial which includes two sites in the Philippines.
